Bridging High Secondary Education

Bridging High Secondary Education

Challenges:

There are large numbers of refugees in the Setapak area, mostly from Somalia. These refugees face difficulties in many aspects of life, especially in getting a quality education and moving forward smoothly through higher education (secondary and university). There are countless schools and centers providing primary education for refugees but only a few are providing secondary education and helping students to make it to university. For example, there are 6 schools and centers providing primary education up to grade 9 for the Somali community but none of these schools or centers are providing solutions to qualify the students to join university.

Introduction:

Although there are many schools and centers providing primary schooling, students are not doing well in their studies and leaving school at an early age and some are exposed to early work or marriage due to the following reasons:

  1. Lack of enough support and encouragement from parents because of financial difficulties.
  2. Lack of clear educational pass towards university education.
  3. Lack of affordable secondary schools and exam centers to prepare refugee students for Secondary Examinations that enable them to join universities.

Solution:

Setting up a secondary exam preparation center or secondary school to qualify students for entry to universities.
